Nate was born and raised in New Hampshire and Michigan and graduated with a BA in Cultural Anthropology with a minor in Peace and Social Justice from the University of Michigan. He got started in conservation through volunteering with different organizations on O‘ahu. At a UH job fair he met some of the Kupu staff and subsequently joined the program. After a few years working with Kupu and Kāko‘o ‘Ōiwi, he was hired on with OISC and has been here since 2012. He works in conservation because he loves the outdoors and feels that there are few careers more rewarding and more important to the well-being of our island, state, and planet. One of his favorite quotes is by Kahlil Gibran: “Rest in reason, move in passion.” In his free time he enjoys writing, being social, and adventuring.
